Economic Empowerment and its Relation to Women's Reproductive Choice and Health
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page examination of the contention that "the relationship between women's employment and fertility is 'elusive and ambiguous'". The author speculates that in some situations women's employment might be likely to result in greater sexual and reproductive choice. This contention can be demonstrated with a look at microcredit programs, programs which are designed to give women an economic leg-up in the world of business. Sometimes such programs, however, have unexpected results, results which could serve more as a detriment than as a benefit to women's reproductive choice and health. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Empirical Research Proposal Regarding the Oppression of Women in
Islamic States
[ send me this paper ]
This 12 page report discusses whether or not the
oppression of women in Islamic states is based in the religious
theology of Islam or in the cultural contexts of individual
nations. Many believe that the Quran (Koran) teachings and male
dominance have caused this situation when the actual problem has
been more directly related to the interpretation of holy
scripture by men. It is the fundamentalist extremists who should
take the blame for distorting the teachings of Islam. This paper
is written in ways that lend themselves to the actual development
of a larger research project. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Ethiopian Women: The Adverse Impacts of Culture and Economics
[ send me this paper ]
A 15 page discussion of the many hardships faced by Ethiopian women as a result of their culture and the harsh economic realities of life in Ethiopia. Not only are these women oppressed by the lack of livable wage work in their home regions, they often live in abusive homes and even when they escape those homes they find little viable employment in the cities. Many women, in fact, are forced into the industry of prostitution. This paper explores the options available to Ethiopia’s women and suggests that the recent advent of women’s groups is a step in the right direction but that in order to changed the lives of these women we must address both Ethiopian culture and entrepreneurial options. Female Circumcision Among the Olinkans
[ send me this paper ]
A 14 page research paper that is based on the premise that the author is a nurse who is spending a year as a health practitioner to the Olinkan tribe. The author must state a position relative to the subject of female circumcision, a practice of the Olinkans. The writer gives both sides of this issue, but comes down unequivocally against female circumcision, or as it is more accurately called, female genital mutilation. In making this argument, the writer uses 'Tashi' from Alice Walker's 'Possessing the Secret of Joy' as a case study. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
