Body Modifications in Mesoamerica
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page paper considers the different types of body modification including scarification, cranial modification, tooth modification and a range of piercing, which are seen in Mesoamerica. These may start with the Olmecs but were also carried forward and developed by other civilisations such as the Maya, Aztec, Teotihuacán and Toltec. Examining these different permanent modification or mutilations the paper draws parallels with the practices of body modifications today and asserts that this has always been associated with social class and power. Bodybuilding: Counterculture
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Staying fit by maintaining a strong and defined physique is the focal point of many people's lives, inasmuch as they consider their physical well being just as important as their mind. Indeed, the dominant culture of bodybuilding empowers individuals to appreciate the benefits of a sturdy build achieved through the natural course of exercise and diet. However, there is also a counterculture to mainstream bodybuilding that raises questions as to the mental soundness of those who take the otherwise healthy sport to a state of unnatural preoccupation by using steroids to artificially inflate their stature to what many believe is a freakish condition. At issue is how this counterculture has come to erroneously represent the dominant culture because of how steroids have been broad-brushed to include conventional bodybuilding. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Can Economic Theory Explain Occupational Pay Diversity
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page paper responds to two general questions: Why do occupations that are more vital to the society paid so little, e.g., nursing, while occupations that are not as vital, such as financial advisors, paid so much more? Does economic theory explain this type of disparity in wages? The answer to the first question must look to reports and articles addressing the wage/salary disparity between men and women because the answer has to do with gender-based jobs. The answer to the second question is: Economic theory cannot explain this difference. In fact, the writer explains this situation defies economic theory. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
